History: The Rockford Silver Plate Co. began as the
Racine Silver Plate Company, but on May 5, 1882 a massive fire destroyed
seven city blocks in downtown Racine, including the company, leaving only a
few brick walls and smokestacks. The owners elected to re-locate and re-open
the business in Rockford, Illinois, thus renaming the company. The firm was described as manufacturers of
"fine electro gold and silver-plated ware, cutlery, spoons and
forks" until 1925 (some source say 1913) when it was acquired by R.W.
Sheets, who renamed the company Sheets Rockford
